Meet the Mission: OTRC SUDS

Monday, March 9, 2026

Recovery changes lives. It builds stability, restores hope, and gives people the support they need to move forward. At CCC, recovery is at the heart of how we help people rebuild their lives—and it’s why we’re proud to highlight the Old Town Recovery Clinic Substance Use Disorder Services (OTRC SUDS), located downtown Portland at the Old Town Recovery Center (OTRC).

As part of CCC’s commitment to recovery and stability, the OTRC SUDS team focuses on evidence-based approaches and meeting people where they are as they work toward healing, health, and long-term stability.

A Place of Support and Hope

OTRC SUDS’ specialty is intensive outpatient treatment. This means clients meet with our team about five times a week, for up to nine hours total. It’s steady, meaningful support—while still allowing people to live at home, work, and stay connected to their families.

They start by creating a treatment plan based on each person’s needs. Everyone’s story is different, so staff take time to listen and build a plan that truly fits their life. For some people, that may include medication-supported recovery with Suboxone (buprenorphine) to help ease cravings and prevent withdrawal. For others, it may focus more on counseling, building healthy routines, and learning new coping skills.

Clients meet one-on-one with a counselor to talk through challenges, set goals, and celebrate progress. They can also connect with peer mentors—people who have walked their own recovery journey and understand how hard, and how hopeful, this process can be. OTRC SUDS offer gender-specific group counseling so people can feel safe, supported, and comfortable sharing their experiences.

They also offer acupuncture as part of treatment. Acupuncture can help reduce cravings, ease chronic pain, lower stress and anxiety, and support emotional balance. Many clients say it helps them feel calmer and more grounded.

Recovery is about more than just stopping substance use. It’s about caring for your whole health and building a stable future. That’s why OTRC SUDS provides coordinated care, including help accessing CCC’s nearby pharmacy and health care services at Old Town Clinic. We can also connect people to primary health care, mental health treatment, supportive housing, and culturally specific recovery support—either within CCC or through trusted community partners.

Engagement Rooted in Lived Experience

What makes OTRC SUDS effective is that it is grounded in real-life understanding. Staff bring both professional training and lived experience to their work, creating a program built on credibility, empathy, and trust.

Many team members have navigated recovery, housing instability, or other significant life challenges themselves. That perspective shapes how services are delivered. It fosters a culture where people feel seen rather than judged, supported rather than directed, and respected rather than defined by their circumstances.

“I was houseless down here in Portland, so to be a part of a team with real people, helping real people with real issues matters.”  -Stephanie Bennet, Clinical Supervisor – Outpatient CD

An Open Door in Old Town

Located at 33 NW Burnside and Broadway, the OTRC SUDS program offers a welcoming place to begin or continue care. Whether someone is ready to take the next step, returning for additional support, or seeking information, they are met with respect and understanding.

As CCC continues to invest in services that promote long-term stability, this program remains an important resource in Old Town Chinatown, offering connection, care, and a belief in what’s possible.

Help sustain CCC’s recovery services that offer dignity, support, and lasting change.
