On April 15, CCC’s Flip the Script (FTS) re-entry program hosted their first independent Advocacy Day at the Oregon State Capitol!
This milestone event brought together FTS program participants, staff, and advocates to amplify the voices of people most impacted by the criminal legal system—and to call for policy change supporting successful reentry.
FTS is a culturally specific reentry program serving Black and African American adults as they transition from incarceration. The program provides wraparound services—including employment opportunities, permanent housing, education, advocacy, case management, and peer mentorship—to reduce recidivism and empower individuals to build self-sufficient lives.

Lifting Up Lived Experience
At the Capitol, FTS participants shared powerful personal stories about reentry, calling for policy change grounded in real-life experience. From barriers with housing and employment to the challenges of rebuilding after incarceration, their voices highlighted the urgent need for strong reentry services to create healthier and safer communities.
“Our entire team felt privileged and empowered to have the opportunity to talk to people who make laws about their concerns. It was a humbling experience to be at the State Capitol.” -Billy Anfield, Advocacy Coordinator, FTS
The response was overwhelmingly positive.
FTS met with 33 legislators, many of whom expressed appreciation for hearing directly from those most impacted. Several lawmakers expressed interest in future collaboration, and Representative Travis Nelson gave an enthusiastic shout-out on the House floor, recognizing the importance of the Flip the Script program!
What Can You Do?
Thirty-three legislative meetings. One House floor shout-out. Dozens of powerful reentry stories. CCC’s first Flip the Script Advocacy Day made an impact!
We’re proud to be part of #ReentryMatters, a national campaign amplifying reentry success and support. Launched by the Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, the campaign lifts the voices of those with lived experience—because their stories have the power to shift public perception, challenge stigma, and influence policy.
We encourage others in our community to join the movement by sharing why reentry matters to them. Together, we can help build a justice system rooted in healing, opportunity, and second chances.
Share your reentry story using #ReentryMatters and tag @CSGJusticeCenter on social media.
