Inside the Mission: More Than A Paycheck – March 7

What role does employment play in recovery and housing stability? What are some of the challenges of getting a job after experiencing homelessness? How can more employers become “Second Chance” employers? These are some of the questions we’ll address with our panel of CCC staff and employers as we explore the connections between homelessness, employment and housing.

Speakers

Sean Hubert, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Central City Concern. Sean joined CCC in 2007 and is responsible for collaboratively developing, communicating, executing and sustaining CCC’s strategic initiatives. He also supports CCC’s communication, policy and advocacy work to improve overall systems alignment for comprehensive and effective housing, health, recovery and employment approaches.

Angelo Polvorosa, Employment Supervisor, Central City Concern. Angelo joined CCC in 2018 and oversees programs connecting clients to trade careers, with an emphasis trên working with women and BIPOC clients. They also oversee programs for CCC’s Family Alcohol and Drug Free Housing Network and first connected đến CCC through their treatment at Hooper Detox. They credit their CCC work and lived experience which allows them to relate to clients on both a personal and professional level.

Andrea Sepulveda, Branch Manager, Integrity Traffic Oregon. Andrea has been with Integrity Traffic Oregon for six years and in the traffic control and safety industry for ten. Offering full-service traffic control, infrastructure and equipment services, Integrity Traffic has been a trusted employer partner of CCC’s since 2023. They’re also a committed Second Chance Employer và have offered a significant number of training and flagging positions to CCC clients in the past year.

Inside the Mission: Addressing the Silver Tsunami – May 2

Being over the age of 50 is now one of the leading factors contributing to homelessness in the United States. There are myriad reasons — over 30% of baby boomers are retiring with no savings, two major recessions, rises in các cost of livingvà Social Security not keeping pace with inflation. Combine điều này with a severe lack of affordable housing và healthcare and we’re looking at a worsening crisis. We’ll talk about the gap in the services organizations like CCC can provide and what’s needed to help address the silver tsunami.

Speakers

Dr. Andy Mendenhall M.D. serves as President and CEO of Central City Concern, driving transformative initiatives since 2017. With a background in addiction and family medicine, Andy elevates CCC’s services to meet diverse client needs amid challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. He initially joined as Senior Medical Director for Substance Use Disorder Services (SUDS) and later became Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in 2018. Andy’s leadership diversifies CCC’s services, providing oversight, setting strategic direction, and guiding the agency through crises. Passionate about serving vulnerable communities, he brings extensive healthcare leadership experience to CCC, supporting its mission to provide high-quality care and support. Andy assumed the role of President and CEO in July 2022.

Dr. Keren Brown Wilson’s career spans a broad range of academic and professional activities in aging and long-term care, including teaching, research, program design and implementation. She is widely known as the architect of the ‘Oregon Model’ of assisted living and her work with affordable housing with services. Currently, she serves as Board Chair of the Jessie F. Richardson Foundation (JFRF) and the Oregon-based non-profit AGE+, both of which she founded. Both organizations focus on underserved older adults in resource constrained communities using asset-based community development techniques.

Laura Golino de Lovato is the Executive Director of Northwest Pilot Project (NWPP), a nonprofit aiding low-income seniors in Multnomah County with housing and rent assistance. With over 35 years of fundraising and nonprofit management experience, she holds a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, Boston. Laura serves on the boards of Here Together and PDX Jazz/Portland Jazz Festival, while also holding key roles such as Co-Chair of the Multnomah County Continuum of Care Board and Commissioner on the City of Portland’s Rental Services Commission. Passionate about social justice, inclusive communities, and animal welfare, Laura actively volunteers to uphold these values in her community.

People experiencing homelessness are constantly on the move. This can make traditional location-based service delivery challenging. At CCC, we’re evolving our model to meet people in more diverse settings and locations. Our care system needs to ủng hộ both traditional (“bricks and mortar”) and non-traditional shelter and service pathways. Learn how we’re piloting mobile health programs and expanding our community outreach to creatively address Portland’s homelessness crisis.
