About Central City Bed

How It Started
Central City Bed was created by Central City Concern (CCC) in response to a persistent and costly challenge: bed bugs.
As a nonprofit developer and operator of affordable housing since the early 1980s, CCC is committed to keeping residents comfortable, managing costs responsibly, and operating as sustainably as possible. When bed bugs began affecting buildings across the country in the early 2000s, CCC experienced the issue firsthand. Despite effective pest management practices, hundreds of traditional wooden bed frames ultimately had to be discarded because bed bugs could not be permanently eradicated from them.
In 2009, while preparing to furnish its new Madrona Studios building, CCC searched for a durable, sustainable, bed bug-resistant bed frame but found no suitable options on the market. Rather than settle for existing products, CCC partnered with a local steel fabricator and mattress manufacturer to develop a better solution. Together, they designed a bed frame with features specifically intended to deter bed bugs while remaining durable, practical, and easy to maintain.
Today, the Central City Bed product line continues to provide organizations with durable, bed bug-resistant furniture designed for affordable housing, shelters, recovery programs, and other shared living environments. Profits generated from the sale of Central City Bed products support CCC’s employment programs, helping people build job skills, secure employment, and create pathways out of homelessness.
About the Furniture
When paired with our bed bug-resistant mattress, the Central City Bed helps reduce the occurrence of bed bugs and improves early detection if pests are introduced from another location. Key design features include:
Made of Steel
Never throw away another bed frame due to pest control challenges. Central City Bed products are durable, easy to clean, and designed to withstand repeated use. If bed bugs are introduced, the frame can be easily treated and returned to service. Frames are also stackable for convenient storage.
Angled Metal Construction
The frame contains no tubular metal components that can serve as hiding places for bed bugs.
Platform Frame Design
A metal mesh platform eliminates the need for a box spring, removing common bed bug hiding places such as wood components, fabric coverings, and stitched crevices.
Splayed Legs
Our bed frames and tables feature splayed legs that sit away from walls, making it more difficult for bed bugs to travel from walls to furniture.
